The wood treated with creosote is met inside the people’s house without being informed regarding its dangerous characteristics. The wood is used for the garden or terrace furniture.
In order to purchase this wood which toxicity had been proven, the secretary of the State, in charge with the ecology, Chantal Jouanno has signed one document that impose conditions for o better supervision of the wood. The creosote is associated with cancer by the International Center of cancer Research and it is often used in order o protect the used pillars to build the electric networks or telecommunications and for the fabrication of railroads sleepers. Every year, 80 000 tones of treated wood is retired from the network infrastructure of the operators. Once it is declared useless, the wood was sold to people or companies and its trace was lost.
To eliminate the offals in an appropriate way, series of measures were taken and there will be put into practice by different organizations as France Railway or France Telecom.
