The National Forestry Agency - Romsilva plans to invest 147.8 million lei for correcting torrents and for the construction, modernization and rehabilitation of forest roads, this year.
Thus, for correction torrents 42.7 million lei will be invested of which 13.1 million lei represent a loan from the Council’s of Europe Development Bank (CEB); the remaining 29.6 million are funds from the state. "Through these projects, Romsilva is trying to prevent the loss of lives, to protect buildings or other constructtions found near the hydrographic network. This also helps to prevent or decrease the degree of damage to infrastructure, reduce clogging phenomenon and protect the reserves and sources of drinking water", declara oficialii agentiei.
Moreover, the correction of torrents will ensure the safety of the river areas and will have a positive effect on tourism development. 105.2 million lei, will be allocated for the construction, modernization and rehabilitation of forest roads, of which approximately 21.8 million are a loan from CEB , 23.4 million lei come from the state’s budget, 20 million – Romsilva’s extra revenue and aproximately 40 million from the National Rural Development Program (NRDP). "For an accessible forest strategy, a necessary first step to build 20,000 km forest roads, a road network that would provide a density index of 9 ml / ha, compared to 5.4 ml / ha it provides today. One of the most important current onjectives is increasing the density of the forest road network", shows a press release issued by the Agency.
According to the NFA, for the main and secondary roads, rehabilitation works will be carried out in order to remove the damage caused by natural disasters. In addition, Romsilva has plans to modernize road systems and bridges that can no longer support the high weight of modern forestry auto-trains.
In 2009, the cost of Romsilva’s work for correcting torrents as estimated at 40.9 million lei and the maintenance and repair of forest roads on an area of over 13,300 km were valued at over 34 million. The National Forest Agency last year’s preliminary gross profit was 28.8 million, 6.2% higher than in 2008, when it reported results of 27.1 million lei and a preliminary turnover of 1.08 billion, down 6% over the previous year.
